1. WAC Director report:
Writing Contest. Division of readings and procedures for assessing and ranking. Announcement of W-course essay contest winners cancelled at the Honors Convocation. Meeting with Selase last week and the issue of how W-courses are and are not filling, including the issue of w-courses in the disciplines. Over 200 empty seats in w-courses for Spring 2010 and Fall 2010 terms. Number of 217 courses decreasing dramatically; this means number of w-courses needed for majors will need to increase. Strategy we need to take is to encourage our faculty to offer at least one w-course per department per year; and we need to encourage faculty proposing LEP tier 2 courses to offer w-courses as well. Question of the labor-intensive nature of w-course pedagogy. Ideas and strategies for making w-courses more attractive will need to be seriously discussed.
2. Writing Center Director report:
Numbers of students worked with for Fall, 2010: 487 tutorials, 92 from W-courses. Workshops with 121 students. 608 total student contacts. Highest number of visits: English w-courses 19, Psychology 12, Women's Studies 11. 20 departments had student writers who visited overall.
