- As part of Southern's participation in the Voluntary System of Accountability, we administered the Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA) to a sample of freshmen and seniors this year. During Fall 2010, 121 first-year students completed the CLA, and 98 seniors completed the test during Spring 2011. The results indicate that students experience above expected learning gains on this test. The principal goal of the CLA is to assist faculty in the improvement of teaching and learning by assessing the level of their students' improvement in targeted skills during their undergraduate education.
