Financial Aid

Students interested in studying abroad have the option of applying their financial aid to their semester abroad.  For many students, cost and financial aid can be a determining fact when deciding to go abroad. Exchanges, such as the long-term reciprocal exchanges offered through SCSU or ISEP, are programs available for the cost of SCSU tuition (not including transportation or personal expenses).

Part of the process of applying for study abroad is completing a budget, which lists possible costs incurred while abroad (airfare, tuition, room and board, books, expenses, etc.).  Once that budget is completed and approved by the Office of International Education, the Office of Financial Aid will review the budget and compare the costs with the student's individual award package and apply the financial aid accordingly.

Students thinking about financial aid should first submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the academic year they plan on study abroad. The 2013-14 priority dates for filing the FAFSA are 3/15/2013.  The FAFSA will provide your financial aid representative with information that will indicate the feasibility of using student loans to cover the cost of studying abroad.fa
