Buley Library
Buley Library is undergoing a massive expansion that will more than double its size. In the meantime, the library continues to serve the many academic and research needs of the Southern community. The library maintains 125 electronic databases. Also located in Buley are several academic support centers, including the Curriculum Library, the Learning Resources Center, the Administrative Computer Center, the Educational Research Center, and the Instructional Resources Center. On the first floor are online and CD-ROM catalogs, the main circulation desk, reference stacks, circulating books, and study tables. On the second floor are more circulating books and additional study areas, and on the third floor are the Mac and PC labs and the Learning Resources Center, which provides audiovisual learning tools for students. The fourth floor houses the Library Science and Instructional Technology Department.
While you're in Buley Library, be sure to note the four stained glass windows in the first floor reading lounge. They are the work of Louis C. Tiffany, master American artist and craftsman, whose famous Tiffany lamps are synonymous with elegant turn-of the-century decor. Three of the windows, dated between 1898 and 1904, originally adorned the First Church of Christ on the New Haven Green. The church donated the windows to Southern, which installed them in the library in 1972.
