Programs in Communication
Areas of Specialization
Majors in communication can choose one of four specializations, or, if a student would
like to explore the potential of more than one area, he or she may develop a cross-specialization
under departmental advisement. The available specializations are:
Advertising and Promotions
Explores the use of creativity and the construction of effective visual and verbal
messages for various media: print, audio, video, and electronic. The program focuses
on the impact of new technologies relative to advertising, promotion, and public relations.
Interpersonal and Relational Communication
Explores concepts, theories, and skills involved in both impersonal and personal relationships.
Organizational Communication
Looks at how people communicate with and within organizations. Students learn to analyze
organizational issues, apply relevant communication theories, and demonstrate competent
behavior in organizational situations.
Video Production
A hands-on program that focuses on the creative and technical aspects of video production.
