 Synergistic Activities

Led a team of four faculty to SSI 2014 at Asheville, NC. Submitted a Post-Institute grant proposal titled "Promoting Student Success among STEM Majors." Result pending. Lead a team of two faculty members and four students to SENCER D.C. Symposium for poster presentation. (2014).

Attended SSI 2013 at San Jose, CA. Elected by National Center for Science and Civic Engagement (NCSCE) as SENCER Leadership Fellow. Hosted the SENCER New England Fall Regional Meeting on SCSU campus. (2013). 

Hosted a SENCER House Call event on campus, inviting SENCER leadership (Founder David Burns) to speak and engage with faculty. Event was well attended and well received. Received SENCER Post-Institute Sub-award of $3,000 on gram proposal titled "Bringing SENCER to Liberal Education." (2011). 

Led a team of four faculty members to SENCER Summer Institute (SSI) 2010 at Asheville, NC. (2010). 

Broadening Participation of Female Students in Computing (2009, 2010, 2011) - a collaborative outreach effort with a private university in CT to invite middle school and high school female students in Fairfield and Greater New Haven area to attend free hands-0n 1-day workshops on university campus to learn more about computing and to meet with female mentors in the field of computing. 

Southern Women in Mathematics and Sciences (S.W.I.M.S.) (2009, 2010) - member of the steering committee at Southern Connecticut State University to foster mentorship between science and mathematics faculty and students. 

Access Computing Project (2006 - 2008) - served as one of the SCSU Campus Partners in a collaboration with University of Washington Access Computing Team - a joint project funded by NSF Broadening Participation in Computing grant to promote greater participation of high school and college students, especially among those in under-represented groups. Served as panel discussion moderator in a Workshop for High School Students with Disabilities at Southern in 2007. Served as facilitator in a Focus Group on Technology Access for Students with Disabilities at Southern in 2007.

SCSU General Education Task Force (2006 - 2013) - served to bring a new Liberal Education Program Proposal to a university referendum, passed in Spring 2009; for the first time in the university's history, the Liberal Education Program contains a Technological Fluency component. Served as Technological Fluency campus coordinator from 2011 - 2013.
