GRADUATE Program

The Master of Science degree program in Computer Science is educating the next generation of leaders in the field  - technologically competent, capable of implementing the latest research and theory, and prepared to meet the upcoming challenges of the information age.  The Master's program in Computer Science is accredited from the State of Connecticut's Department of Higher Education.

The program is intended for students with a Baccalaureate degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering. Students with baccalaureate degrees in other disciplines will be required to complete a series of prerequisite courses before receiving admission to this program.

Graduates of the program are prepared to enter or advance in a technological area in almost any work environment or to pursue a doctoral degree in order to work in any computing-related field.

Upon completion of the program, graduates will be:

  1. able to demonstrate knowledge of the theoretical foundations and formal methods in computer science.
  2. able to communicate effectively in both a written and oral manner.
  3. able to analyze and evaluate existing computing solutions and create innovative solutions to research problems utilizing current or emerging computing technologies.
  4. prepared for employment in a computer-related industry or for further post-graduate study.

The computer science program is committed to a "breadth and depth" approach - requiring students to study beyond their chosen areas of specialization. The 36-credit degree includes nine core requirements in algorithms, formal languages, and advanced operating systems.  In addition to completing these requirements, students must fulfill 12 credits in their chosen concentration areas, and complete 9 credits in the two remaining areas.  The options for concentration are:

Upon completion of coursework with a grade point average of 3.0 or better, each student must then complete a six-credit Thesis or Capstone Project to satisfy all requirements for the degree.
