Voices of September 11th

Voices of September 11th (VOICES) was co-founded by Mary Fetchet, a clinical social worker and educator following the death of her 24 year old son Brad in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.  VOICES acts as a clearing house of information and provides programs, resources and case management services to all those impacted by 9/11.   In 2006, VOICES launched the 9/11 Living Memorial Project to commemorate the nearly 3,000 lives lost and document the firsthand account of survivors, rescue and recovery workers as well as hundreds of memorials and foundations that were created in their memory.  VOICES professional staff has met with over 800 families from around the country to create an extensive historical record of over 40,000 photographs, written materials and personal keepsakes.  Last November we began our international outreach by traveling to London to meet with the families of the 67 UK victims.  The 9/11 Living Memorial is currently online at www.911livingmemorial.org and will be incorporated into the exhibit at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum and other notable institutions.  With offices in New Canaan, Connecticut and New Brunswick, New Jersey the organization has an active website and distributes information to over 11,000 members living around the world.  Visit www.voicesofsept11.org for more information or contact our office at 203-966-3911.

VOICES social work and sociology internship will provide an opportunity to work with 9/11 victims' family members, survivors, rescue and recovery workers and others impacted by the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.  Interns will work with our social work staff to assist with the 9/11 Living Memorial Project, facilitate periodic Living Memorial workshops, conduct outreach efforts, provide case management services and identify available local support resources.  Training will be provided on our relational database and assessment tools.  Publications can be produced for VOICES website and e-newsletter.   Interns will also have an opportunity to conduct oral histories.     

COMMUNICATIONS 

VOICES communications/public relations intern will write copy for the e-newsletter and website, write and distribute press releases, coordinate interviews and expand the press distribution list, including print, television and radio.   Interns will have an opportunity to research projects, write summaries for the 9/11 Living Memorial Project and expand VOICES' social networking capabilities. Students will also be involved in creating publications including PR materials and print materials.   

WEBSITE DESIGN

VOICES web design internship will provide an opportunity to further develop and implement enhancements to the VOICES website.  Interns will work with our staff to help plan and incorporate social networking, audio and video capabilities within www.voicesofsept11.org and www.911livingmemorial.org.           


GRAPHIC DESIGN AND DATA ENTRY

VOICES graphic design and data entry intern will manage, modify and post digital content for the 9/11 Living Memorial Digital Archive Project and the VOICES website. Interns will have an opportunity to work with our staff and digital archivist to create an online tribute that commemorates the lives and stories of 9/11.  This digital content will part of the permanent repository VOICES is creating.

MEDIA STUDIES

VOICES media studies interns will work with our staff to photograph items, film and conduct video and oral history interviews.  Interns will also document the history of the organization by organizing and converting existing audio and video interviews as well as print materials. 

BUSINESS SCHOOL

VOICES business school interns will have an opportunity to work with our Founding Director to assess and further develop a business plan for our expanding organization.   Projects include the development of a strategic and business plan, review of the organizations governance, policies and procedures and board development.  The intern or team of interns will also have an opportunity to work on the annual appeal, annual report and marketing materials

EVENTS PLANNING

VOICES events planning internship will provide an opportunity to work with our staff to create programs and implement ongoing events, including but not limited to our Annual Day of Remembrance Information forum, regularly scheduled 9/11 Living Memorial workshops and our Annual "Always Remember" Benefit.  In the past we have had notable keynote speakers such as Brian Williams of NBC Nightly News, President Bill Clinton and Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.   

PUBLIC POLICY  

VOICES public policy intern will research, summarize and report on public policy issues relevant to 9/11.  Issues include, but are not limited to the terrorist trials, House and Senate Congressional hearings on homeland security, preparedness, and general issues related to the 9/11 commission recommendations

Technical Support Analyst  
Department of  Computer Science

This position is responsible for technical support of the Computer Science administrative and academic computer hardware and software.  This includes setup, maintenance, installation, and support of technology software and hardware.

As directed, maintains operation of assigned Computer Science administrative and academic computing facilities such as departmental  labs.  The incumbent installs and maintains lab hardware and software including operating systems and applications and implements recommendations for lab policy and procedures. Interfacing with vendors and maintaining software and hardware inventories.  Maintains and reviews entries in the problem tracking system, assigns requests to appropriate personnel and reports on requests that are not serviced in a timely manner.  Plans, prepares and provides instruction and workshops for faculty on technology for use in the delivery of instruction.  Assists faculty and students with the use of hardware and software available in the Computer Science  labs and computer instructional classrooms. Researches instructional materials, multimedia and distance education methodologies that are computer based.  Integrates these technologies and facilitates their use as directed.  Assists in developing Web-based material as directed. Assists with the design, development, and maintenance of the department's presence on the web including security, training, and providing assistance within the department.
Installs personal computer and network software and hardware for the department; assists in related problem diagnosis and support for client and server systems. Maintains an inventory of the availability and distribution of software licenses purchased by the department. Develops users' manuals and documentation for instructional systems, software and policies and procedures. May supervise part-time and student workers. May conduct seminars and workshops for Computer Science teaching, staff and students in the use of computing equipment and software in instructional topics. May be needed occasionally during off-hours to handle special problems.

Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field is required.  Master's degree preferred.   Three years of system administration experience with demonstrated ability and familiarity with all facets of information technology in an academic setting.  Knowledge of scripting languages is required.  Demonstrated ability to work well with all levels of individuals within a university community and utilize good interpersonal and organizational skills to work as liaison between OIT and Computer Science Department.  

Demonstrated ability to understand and apply state-of-the-art technologies in computing and telecommunications to the needs of Computer Science Department as an academic unit with heavy computational usage and complex applications.  Demonstrated ability to trouble shoot, to design and implement effective solutions.  Network and security principles with experiences with Cisco switches and routers preferred.  These qualifications may be waived for individuals with appropriate alternate experience.

Students will write Blog articles, website copy, press releases and other works for several internal or client website projects that are in development or already launched and growing. Interns will gather data and perform online research for their own and department projects.
