Mathematics Placement
Entering freshmen are placed into their first math course according to their SAT math score. If you believe you are prepared for a higher level math course than your SAT math score indicates, you may choose to take the Math Placement Exam. More detailed information on the placement exam are available at University's Placement Exams Mathematics Guide page.
Transfer students may not use their SAT scores for math placement.

The chart that follows indicates the courses a student is eligible to take based on their SAT/ACT Math score and high school math background. Mathematics course descriptions are available at here.

requirement of chosen major. These include MAT 103, 105, 107, 108, 120, 122 , OR YOU MAY CHOOSE TO TAKE MAT 095 or 100 or 102 to review concepts. |
| SAT 600 and above AND a grade of B or better in a high school Precalculus or Calculus shown to have included trigonometry (please contact Math Dept Chair) OR AP Calculus course with grade of B or better OR ACT 24 or above |
Any mathematics course with MAT 100/102 or MAT 120 or MAT 122 as prerequisite, which
may be determined by requirements of chosen major. These include MAT 103, 105, 107, 108, 120, 122, 139, 150, 178 (if CSC requirement is satisfied),
221 , OR YOU MAY CHOOSE TO TAKE MAT 095 or 100 or 102 to review concepts. |
AP (Advanced Placement) Course Credits
In order for the course credit to be granted, you must notify the College Board to send your test scores to SCSU's Admissions Office. If you need help registering for Calculus II or III because your AP Calculus credits have not yet been entered into the system by Admissions, you may bring a copy of your test results to the Mathematics Department to obtain electronic permission.
