Stacy Phillips is an internationally acclaimed fiddler and dobro player who has authored over 25 books and dvd''s about various aspects of fiddling in addition to the standard instructional texts for dobro slide guitar. Among them are: Bluegrass Fiddle Styles (the famous "yellow book"), Phillips Collection of Traditional American Fiddle Tunes, The Klezmer Collection, Western Swing Fiddle and the Bluegrass Fiddle Boot Camp dvd series.
His 1992 article "The Violin in Salsa Music" was the only written instruction about this genre of violin until one of his students, Sam Bardfield, wrote the definitive book.
Stacy won a Grammy award for his performance on the cd "Great Dobro Sessions".
Stacy Phillips has conducted workshops across US and Canada as well as Europe and Australia. He has previously taught private lessons at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT for three years and conducted fiddle clinics at Yale, Alfred University (NY), University of Vermont, UMass at Amherst and other academic settings as well as numerous music camps.
He teaches traditional American "old time" fiddling, bluegrass, swing, klezmer and salsa. He also gives lessons on dobro lap slide guitar.
Stacy has performed with Mark O'Connor, Peter Rowan, David Bromberg, Eileen Eivers (Riverdance fiddler), Leon Redbone, Matt Glaser, Bela Fleck, Tony Trischka among many other of the worlds best acoustic musicians.
Stacy currently plays with: The Bluegrass Characters, AfroSemitic Experience jazz group, Irish and American Fiddling group, The Swivets contra band and Stacy Phillips/Paul Howard Duet.
