Christine Broadbridge received her M.S. and Ph.D. in engineering from Brown University, where she conducted research in the fields of materials science, semiconductor electronics, and solid-state physics. She started her faculty career at Trinity College, where she established a materials science and engineering facility. She also founded and directed the United Technologies/Trinity College Engineering Initiative (UTCEI), a program designed to enhance the representation of women and underrepresented minorities in engineering and science. In January of 1998, Dr. Broadbridge was appointed Visiting Fellow at Yale University and in September of 2000 she joined the Physics Department at SCSU.
Dr. Broadbridge has served as principal investigator or co-principal investigator on five National Science Foundation (NSF) projects and as researcher on over a dozen others, including grants from NASA, Brookhaven National Laboratory, and the U.S. Department of Energy. Broadbridge participated in the establishment and is currently education director for the Center for Research on Interface Structures and Phenomena (CRISP) a NSF Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC) at Yale and SCSU.
She is also the founding Director of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities Center for Nanotechnology (CSCU-CNT) and the SCSU Office for STEM Innovation and Leadership (STEM-IL). Broadbridge is actively involved in teaching and providing research and outreach experiences to students and teachers at SCSU and Yale and is the Director for the CRISP Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) and teachers (RET) programs for these Universities. She was recently tasked with establishing the new School of Graduate Studies, Research, and Innovation (GSRI) at SCSU as the interim Dean.
