Webster Bank Hires First Finance Student for New Internship Program

Deepta RameshWebster’s Treasury & Payment Solutions (TPS) department has launched an intern program in conjunction with Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) in New Haven, Conn., one of the few colleges in the nation and the only in New England to offer an “Essentials of Treasury Management” course.

Deepta Ramesh (photo), a senior in the university’s honors college, started recently as the program’s first hire. She is pursuing her bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in finance. “I've enjoyed all my finance classes at school and I hope this opportunity shows me what a future career in this industry will be like,” she said.

Larry Selnick, senior vice president, TPS, proposed the paid intern program through SCSU because of its treasury management course work. “The Essentials of Treasury Management course is offered in partnership with the Association of Financial Professionals (AFP) to provide the same body of knowledge used by AFP to deliver the Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) designation training and certification testing,” Larry said. “We’re excited to have Deepta on board and looking forward to extending our relationship with SCSU.”
