Dr. Birz is an Assistant Professor of Finance at Southern Connecticut State University. His research interests include behavioral finance, market microstructure, risk management, and empirical asset pricing. Dr. Birz’s recent work examines the role of newspaper stories in financial markets. His research titled “The Effect of Macroeconomic News on Stock Returns: New Evidence from Newspaper Coverage” has been published in the Journal of Banking and Finance as a lead article. He is also a recipient of the Connecticut State University Research Grant (2013).
Dr. Birz’s teaching interests include investments, behavioral finance, corporate finance, and macroeconomics. Prior to joining SCSU, Dr. Birz taught at the State University of New York at Binghamton, Adelphi University, and worked as a Market Risk Management Auditor at Morgan Stanley. He earned his Ph.D. from SUNY Binghamton.
