Kari Sassu is an Assistant Professor in the Counseling and School Psychology Department and the Coordinator of the School Psychology program at Southern Connecticut State University. Before joining the faculty at SCSU, Dr. Sassu worked within the Center for Behavioral Education and Research at the University of Connecticut where she served as the Implementation Coordinator for School-Wide Positive Behavioral Supports in Hartford Public Schools and five of the CommPACT schools associated with the Institute for Urban School Improvement. Previously, Dr. Sassu has served as a school psychology practitioner, an adjunct professor, and a consultant to local schools. Her professional experience also includes providing in-patient rehabilitation counseling to adult patients with dual diagnoses and conducting neuropsychological evaluations of children and young adults. Prior to obtaining her doctorate in Educational Psychology from the University of Connecticut, Dr. Sassu earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's degree in Psychological Services, both from the University of Pennsylvania. Her current and previous research interests include the development of prevention strategies and intervention methodologies aimed at eradicating problematic behavior among students as well as the study of gender differences in aggressive and bullying behaviors.
