Lystra Richardson, Ph.D., Professor
Dr. Lystra M. Richardson is a professor in the Department of Educational Leadership & Policy Studies at Southern Connecticut State University, where she teaches courses in the Sixth-Year Program, the Doctoral Program and the Superintendents' Program. Courses include Leadership Development, Organizational Development, Supervision, Learning Theory, Curriculum Development, Politics of School Administration, District-Level Instructional Leadership, and School Change among others. Dr. Richardson's primary research interests are leadership development and student achievement.
Dr. Richardson is the author of several articles and one book The Power of Poetry for School Leadership. Dr. Richardson holds a Ph.D. in school leadership from The University of Connecticut. She previously served as a central office administrator and language arts teacher for the New Haven Public Schools and as an implementation coordinator for the School Development Program at Yale Child Study Center.
She has served on the boards of Amistad Academy, Achievement First and is presently a board member of Elm City Preparatory School - an Achievement First School. She has also served on the boards of Cold Spring School, New England School Development Council (NESDEC), and the New Haven Public Education Fund. She is also a member of several national professional organizations.
