Communication Disorders Department Undergraduate Courses

LIST OF COURSES FOR UNDERGRADUATE CMD MAJORS:

The following information is relevant for students matriculating in 2011 or later.  Students who matriculated prior to 2011 should consult the undergraduate catalog from the appropriate year or speak with the undergraduate advisor regarding requirements. 

Liberal Education Program (LEP) Courses

Due to the fact that the LEP is a new program and additional LEP courses are approved regularly, there may be additional courses that will meet the requirements of the program.  For the most current information, students should utilize their Degree Evaluation forms or consult the Undergraduate Advisor.

Students select one in each of the following categories:

Quantitative Reasoning: MAT 103, 107, 108, 139, 150, 178

Natural World I:  Physical Realm: CHE 103, 121, PHY 100, 101, 103, 200, 210, 230

Natural World II:  Life and the Environment: BIO 100, 101, 104

 CT Department of Education Requirements

Students should also be aware that the CT Department of Education requires the following courses for obtaining a Special Service Endorsement in Speech and Language Pathology in order to work in CT schools.  Students who plan to complete a Masters Degree are encouraged (although not required) to complete these courses during their program:

SED 482 Teaching Exceptional Students in Secondary Education Classroom

Two of the following courses:

PSY 210 Infant and Child Development
PSY 215 Adolescent Development
PSY 220 Introduction to the Mental Health Field

PSY 370 Educational Psychology

The above list is not exhaustive; there are other courses that may be uzilized to fulfill the CT Department of Education requirements.

Undergraduate students who plan to apply for graduate studies in Communication Disorders must pass the PRAXIS I examination or secure a waiver before the application due date.
