Dr Madara was presented with the 2013 J Philip Smith Outstanding Teaching Award for full time faculty at a reception during the SCSU Teaching Academy of May 14th. She is pictured with Provost Marianne Kennedy. She will also be recognized at the upcoming Undergraduate Commencement Exercise on May 17th. Congratulations to Dr Madara!

Dr. Karen Barnett and Dr. Kimberly Lacey received one of the 2013 Nightingale Awards for Excellence in Nursing at a ceremony held at Anthony's Ocean View on May 13th, 2013. Congratulations to both of our faculty and thank you for the work that you do each and every day. Several Department of Nursing alumni also received a Nightingale Award this year including Jeremy Estes (Yale-New Haven Hospital), Paulina Jaworski (Griffin Hospital), and Melissa Nadeau (VNA of South Central Connecticut).

Congratulations to the Nursing Class of 2013. The Department celebrated nursing and the accomplishments of the 87 graduating seniors at this year's Pinning Ceremony.

Angela Read, a 4.0 BS in Nursing student is the recipient of the prestigious Barnard Scholar Award. Read about Angela's accomplishments at http://www.southernct.edu/news/barnard2013.html.

Jennifer Basler, ACE Nursing Student, was presented with one of the $1200 Nightingale Scholarships
at a reception on April 8th. Jen will be graduating from the ACE program in August
of 2014.

Beret Ravenscroft, SCSU ACE Alumni 2012, was recently highlighted by the New Careers in Nursing Program. Beret has recently begun her PhD studies at The University of New Mexico with a focus on health care policy. Robert Sambat, a 2012-2013 ACE student, was chosen as an essay winner by the New Careers in Nursing
Organization. Robert is a RWJF scholar who will be graduating in August of 2013.

Jonathan Cooke, a 2010-2011 ACE student, was chosen as an essay winner by the New Careers in Nursing
Organization. Jonathan is a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation scholar and will be graduating
