  • Master of Science in Special Education with a Concentration in Adaptive Technology:
In Fall 2002, SCSU established a new master of science degree in special education with a concentration in adaptive technology. The program prepares special education teachers to use computer technology to help students achieve their academic goals. The 30-credit program includes 15 credits of coursework in adaptive technology. The Center for Adaptive Technology provides hands-on training for the students, the training manual for the introductory course, and technology support.

  • Adaptive Technology/Augmentative & Alternative Communication Training Grant:
The Departments of Communication Disorders and Special Education and Reading are pleased to announce the award of a grant from the U.S. Department of Education entitled, "Training Speech-Language Pathologists and Special Educators in Assistive Technology and Augmentative Communication." The purpose of this training grant is to increase the numbers of speech-language pathologists and special educators who provide high quality services to children with assistive technology needs. The grant may provide tuition assistance, graduate assistantships (full-time students only), stipend support, and professional travel funds to students from both departments in Masters and Sixth Year programs. Students will have an opportunity to take both special education classes in adaptive technology and communication disorders classes in augmentative and alternative communication, thus preparing them to provide services to students with low-incidence disabilities such as cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, autism, developmental disability and complex medical problems. In addition to the requirements of their degree program, these students will complete interdisciplinary coursework and practicum experiences in assistive technology and augmentative communication.
