Loan Program
The
Loan Program at the Center for Adaptive Technology runs the outreach
and service of Assistive Technology Demonstrations and Device Loans for
the Connecticut Tech Act Project (http://www.cttechact.com/
loan/).
The Loan Program (LP) is a grant-funded program that serves three
communities with different adaptive technology needs: community members
of Connecticut in need of, and approved for, adaptive technologies to
address physical, mental, or social incapacities; teachers of
technology and special education in Connecticut's school districts who
would like to asses student needs and opportunities for adaptive
technology to be used in schools; and students of SCSU, registered with
the campus Disability Resource Center, with assessed needs for
assistance by adaptive technology in their education endeavors.
Primarily, the LP offers computer technology outfitted with adaptive technology
software and/or physical adaptive devices for full computer interaction and control,
with each loan package tailored to a client's assessed needs. Assessment of a
client is performed through in-person and phone interviews with the client from
the Center, in combination with input received by aides, family members, social
workers, and assessments performed by outside services (e.g. speech
therapists). With each loan, the LP provides instructional support at our
facility on the SCSU campus, as well as technical support for all computer
hardware and software provided.
