Financial Aid Authorization for Students
According to federal regulations, federal student aid will be applied directly to
your outstanding university charges (tuition, fees, room, board and other eligible
educational charges on the student's account) and in some cases you may be eligible
to receive a credit balance. A credit balance is created when the total federal student
aid credited to your account exceeds the total amount of tuition, fees, room, board,
and other eligible educational charges.
By answering the questions in Banner Web, you will or will not authorize SCSU to manage the federal student aid on your student account.
1. You can use the credit balance to pay prior term charges up to $200 (fall,
spring, etc.)
2. You can use the credit balance to pay current term non-institutional charges,
transcripts and graduation fees, and other miscellaneous fees and fines that you may
incur.
3. You can have SCSU hold the credit balance to pay for a future term within the
academic year (winter session and spring break). The hold will expire in late Spring
and any remaining credit balance will be mailed to the permanent address or deposited
into your bank account.
If you do not authorize SCSU to hold the credit balance, the university must refund
the credit balance within 14 days from the disbursement date.
You have the right to rescind the authorization at any time by logging into Banner
Web and modifying your response(s) to the Title IV authorization questions. Note
that if you elect not to give autorization to SCSU or if you later cancel the authorization,
you will be required to pay any outstanding charges owed to the university.
If you withdraw your authorization, SCSU will refund any remaining credit balance
to you within 14 days. (Note that your cancellation is not retroactive.)
