federal direct STUDENT LOAN INFORMATION

Southern ConnecticutState University (SCSU) has changed its process of providing federal
student loans. The University now participates exclusively in the William D. Ford
Federal Direct Loan (FDL) program. This program allows borrowers to obtain loan funds
directly from the U.S. Department of Education.
In order to be considered for an FDL, you must complete the 2013-2014 Free Application
for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov, provide any documents requested by our office and accept your loans on BannerWeb.
You will then have to complete a Direct Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN) with the
federal government at www.studentloans.gov before any loan funds will disburse to the university or show as estimated aid on
your bill.
All first time borrowers at SCSU will be required to complete an FDL entrance counseling
at www.studentloans.gov before the loan funds will disburse to the university or show as estimated aid on
your bill.
Loans approved will be disbursed into two disbursements. Also, loans that have been
approved for one semester will also be transferred in two disbursements; one half
at the start of the semester and one half at the mid-point of the semester.
