Establishing an Endowed Scholarship Fund
Establishing a scholarship is one of the most meaningful ways of ensuring that Southern's 112-year tradition of excellence will continue to be available to the most talented students, whatever their family circumstances. When you fund a scholarship, you help these students realize the dream of a college education and prepare for a successful career. Your gift of $25,000 or more to the SCSU Foundation is all it takes to start an endowed scholarship that will help Southern students for generations to come.
Your scholarship fund can be established in your own name as a way of saying "thank you" for a fine education, or you can name it in memory of a loved one or in honor of a person you admire. Scholarships can also be established posthumously through a bequest to the SCSU Foundation in your will. Southern's development staff will work with you to craft scholarship criteria that reflect what is important to you. Your criteria can include the student's year of study, major, activities, and so forth.
Once your gift has been received, the Foundation will invest the principal and use only the accrued interest and dividends for the annual scholarship award. It takes approximately one full fiscal year for a newly endowed scholarship to earn the income necessary to make an award. Once it is time for your scholarship to be awarded, you will be invited to attend a recognition ceremony for donors and recipients.
Thank you for your interest in our endowed scholarship program. Please contact our Development Office with any questions you may have. We look forward to working with you to meet your philanthropic goals.
