alumni association

Dear Southern Alumni,

Having been at Southern for nearly 40 years and in a number of capacities - as a student, employee, and member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors - I am proud to serve now as the president of the Board of Directors.  In this capacity, and with the support of the Board of Directors and the Office of Alumni Relations, I plan to embrace the past, but move forward as our alumni change and grow.

To this end, my goal is to increase and improve programming for our alumni.  For the past six months, the board has been working tirelessly with Michelle Rocheford Johnston, our new director of alumni relations, to bring a comprehensive, meaningful program of events to our alumni of all ages.  The programming is ambitious, as you will see in the Southern Events section of the magazine.

One of the most exciting events will be the first school-oriented Alumni Weekend in spring 2008.  Our plans are to host an alumni weekend in collaboration with each of Southern's six schools over the next six years.  The first alumni weekend will focus on the School of Arts & Sciences in conjunction with its "Celebration of the Arts & Sciences."  The weekend will include seminars through our Alumni College and performing arts events along with the time for plenty of socializing.  Stay tuned for more details on our Web site:  http://www.SouthernCT.edu/alumni/.

If you have not done so already, I hope you will join me by becoming a member of the Alumni Association.  I urge you to join or renew your Southern Alumni Association membership by participating in the Annual Giving drive going on now.  You may already have received a request.  If not, you may make a gift online at Giving.SouthernCt.edu.  Your support makes a critical difference in the continuing success of the university and, most importantly, to the students.

Cordially,

Michael Roshka, Jr., '73, M.S. '79
President
Alumni Association Board of Directors

The Alumni Association -- "creating and maintaining that fine spirit of fellowship."
