Edward B. Mack , ’51 Education: B.S. in art education. Helped finance his education by working as a tutor, store window display artist, men’s apparel salesman, short-order cook, and outside window washer at the Winchester Repeating Arms Company. Career: An arts educator, Mack previously was the curriculum coordinator and department chairman for the Wilton Public Schools System. Other artistic ventures include scene design, jewelry design and illustration, graphic design, and story illustration. Today, he explores a variety of artistic forms, most notably drawing and sculpture. Once an arts educator: Since retiring, Mack has traveled to Honduras and Guatemala as a design consultant to woodworking artists and craftsmen. He also volunteers with the Mesa Southwest Museum and the Heard Museum, lending his expertise to an exhibition and scholarship program for Native American art students. The family that gives together : “My wife, Jean, is a musician, and I can hardly recall when the arts have not been an integral part of our lives. That’s why we founded the Edward and Jean Mack Art and Music Endowed Scholarship Fund. It is our hope that our endowed scholarship will assist others at SCSU in building their careers in the arts as well.” Closing Thought: “Thank you, SCSU, for the educational experience you afforded to us when we were young seekers and dream chasers.” |
