Classes ending with a “2” or “7” will celebrate their reunions at Homecoming on Oct. 27, 2007.

Frank Pinto, ’61, M.S. ’67, and Joanne Vincent Pinto, ’64, M.S. ’70, welcomed their first grandchild, Kathryn Elizabeth, on Oct. 21, 2006. The Pintos spend their winters on Siesta Key in Sarasota, Fla. Joanne is on the Board of the Auxiliary of the Hospital of Saint Raphael where she and her husband volunteer weekly.

Jeanne Terrell Blude, ’65, has taught 400 adult refugees and immigrants during the past 141/2 years for Bridgeport Adult Education at the International Institute of Connecticut.

Vivien F. Novicki, ’65, was posthumously inducted into the Branford Sports Hall of Fame. Novicki played basketball and field hockey at Branford High School, graduating in 1960. In 1965, she began a 34-year career as teacher, coach, and athletic administrator at Waterford High School. She served as director of athletics for 11 years. Novicki died on Nov. 28, 2004.

Trudy Dujardin, ’67, received an Award of Merit from the Design Futures Council. The award recognized Dujardin for her leadership in support of sustainable “green” design.

Laurence Moffi, ’68, is the author of “The Conscience of the Game,” which was published in October 2006 by the University of Nebraska Press. The revised edition of his book, “Crossing the Line: Black Major Leagues, 1947-1959,” also was published by the University of Nebraska Press.

Vincent Russell, ’72, is director of education at Seacoast Youth Academy, a private school for children with emotional disabilities in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Anne Ballarin Somero, ’72, works for United Airlines as a flight attendant based in New York. During the 1970s she worked as a sports writer in Connecticut for The Hartford Courant, The News-Times, the Manchester Journal-Enquirer, and the Waterbury Republican. Somero retired from sports writing to raise her family.

Karen Keane, ’75, was one of 39 finalists in the New Haven Symphony Orchestra’s The Art Violin Project. Keane is a finalist in the decorating category, in which contestants may decorate a violin in any manner or style.

James E. Ryan, ’75, president of the Shelton Economic Development Corporation, was named honorary director of the 2006 Commodore Hull Thanksgiving Day 5K Road Race. The Race Committee chose Ryan for the honor “which was given to an individual who has made a strong contribution to the quality of life in Shelton and Derby.”

Marie Mas, ’79, was named the assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction for Easton, Redding, and Region 9 in Connecticut, as reported in the Redding Pilot.’

Patricia Michalik Perry, ’82, reports that her book, “Quest for the Source of Darkness” a fantasy novel, was published. The book was nominated for a Reviewer’s Choice award and was a “Feature Book of the Month” on www.Allbookreviews.com. The sequel, “The Guardian of Darkness,” is being published. Perry’s website is www.questforthesourceofdarkness.com.

Jeff Kotecki, ’83, of Waterford is the assistant principal of West Side Middle School.

Jeff Stoutland, ’84, is the offensive line coach at the University of Miami. He is married to Allison Gouteman Stoutland, ’88. The Stoutland family is moving to South Florida.

Kenneth Crawford, ’85, was promoted to regional director of Commercial Development for Comcast Cable in Broward County, Fla.

Sharon Ritz, ’86, was one of 39 finalists in the New Haven Symphony Orchestra’s Art Violin Project. Ritz is a competitor in the design category where contestants may design an artistic representation of a violin out of any materials they choose.

Rev. Jenni Matheson, ’88, recently presented a contribution to the Torrington Community Kitchen. The donation represented funds from St. Michael’s September Fete & Faire Benefit.

Stanley Baranski, ’89, CPA, has joined Blum Shapiro, a major regional accounting and business consulting firm based in Connecticut.

Susan Craig, M.S. ’89, earned National Board Certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in Early Generalist. She is married to Timothy Craig, ’84, M.S. ’90. They have a daughter, Amanda, 12.

Donald M. Casey, Jr., ’90, a professional educator at Stepney Elementary School in Monroe, Conn., announces that he and his students recently received a community service grant from the Rotary Club of Monroe. In related news, Casey, who coaches the school’s Read Across America Team, shares that his students received a letter from First Lady Laura Bush honoring the children for promoting a love of reading.

Alice Burns Tucker, ’93, is the assistant to the president of Trinity College in Hartford, Conn. She took this position after accepting early retirement from AT&T, then Southern New England Telephone.

Eugene Spaziani, ’94, wrote a story for Quinnipiac University Alumni Magazine.

Jeffrey Newton, M.S. ’96, the principal at Dr. Charles E. Murphy School, Oakdale, Conn., received the 2005-2006 William Cieslukowski Outstanding Principal of the Year Award from the Connecticut Association of Schools.

Christer Osterling, ’98, was elected the 62nd president of the Connecticut Jaycees, a leadership development organization for people ages 21-40.

Andrew Gernhard, ’99, announces that the film, “Blood Descendants,” from Synthetic Cinema International (SCI) is being released this spring through Maverick Home Entertainment. In 2004, Gernhard partnered with Southern Professor Emeritus of Communication Richard J. Lucas and Southern Professor of Communication Bonnie Farley-Lucas to create SCI. The company specializes in the production, distribution, sales, and financing of independent feature films.

Matthew Grant, ’99, is a video news editor at Voice of America. He also teaches television, video, and audio editing at the Connecticut School of Broadcasting in Arlington, Virg. He is married to Angela Pellegrino Grant.

Jeffery Naples, ’04, is a firefighter for the town of Hamden, Conn. Naples completed three months of training at the Connecticut Fire Academy.
