Arline Carr, ’47, celebrated the 60th reunion of her class with twelve alumni of New Haven State Teachers College, which later became Southern. The event was held on Oct. 4, 2007 at the Rustic Oak Restaurant in North Haven, Conn. Gladys Kautz Tiedemann, ’48, joined eleven members of the Class of 1948 at a get-together of Connecticut-based alumni at the 95 Gathering Place. Betty Lewis Anderson is coordinating the planning committee for a 60th reunion in 2008. |

Mel Finkenberg, ’70, has been named the first recipient of the University Administrator of the Year Award from the Texas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. Jeff Leake, ’72, a technology teacher at Dodd Middle School in Cheshire, Conn., was elected to a three-year term as treasurer for the Hartford-based Connecticut Education Associates (CEA), as reported in the Cheshire Herald. Tom Hanford, ’74, is a visual artist, musician, storyteller, and teacher who has been integrating his various talents into multimedia performances for young people for almost 20 years, as reported in Voices. Frank “Sid” Maietto, ’79, was promoted to the position of coach/facilitator of employee involvement at the Boeing Company Delivery Center. |

Powers, ’91, has been named the director of public affairs at Yale University School of Nursing, as reported in Business New Haven. Barbara Snyder, ’91, has been named administrator of development for the American Medical Writers Association for 2007-2008. George Rose, ’94, and Lisa (Connolly) Rose, ’95, have just opened up “A Bead of Roses,” a bead and jewelry making shop located at 444 Main Street in Monroe, Conn. They have two children, Grace (10) and Jack (8). MaryAnne Mascolo, ’95, superintendent of schools in Seymour, has joined the Community Campaign Cabinet as head of the Education Division, as reported in the Huntington Herald. Karen Delane Allard, ’96, is the recipient of this year’s Compass Award from the Child Guidance Clinic, Meriden, Conn., as reported in the Cheshire Herald. The award recognizes those who have helped the agency maintain its direction during the previous year through excellent performance. Recipients are nominated by their peers at the agency. Allard has been an employee of the Child Guidance Clinic for 17 years. Joseph Pulit, IV, ’96, has been named assistant principal at Edison Middle School, Meriden, Conn. Michele Tarantino, M.P.H. ’96, OTR/L, CLVT, has been promoted to the position of coordinator of outpatient Rehabilitation Services, audiology and low vision, for Masonic Healthcare of Wallingford, Conn. Thomas H. McMorran, ’99, has been named the head of Joel Barlow High School and the district assistant superintendent of the Easton/Redding School District, as reported in the Easton Courier. Prior to this appointment, McMorran was the assistant principal at Ridgefield High School. |

Immacula Didier, ’00, has been named assistant principal at Edison Middle School, Meriden, Conn., as reported in the Record-Journal Lois W. Hiller, ’03, was appointed library director of the Mystic and Noank Library. Richard P. Zipoli, Jr., ’04, has received a Ph.D. in Special Education, with an emphasis in learning and reading disabilities, from the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Connecticut. Colin Devine, ’05, has been appointed the boys basketball coach at Staples High School in Wesport, Conn., as reported in the Westport News. Jennifer Marinelli, ’05, has been named principal of Litchfield Intermediate School, as reported in the Republican-American. Lou Rubino, ’05, was selected Teacher of the Year at Dr. Charles E. Murphy Elementary School, Montville, Conn., as reported in the Montville Times. “He’s a fabulous educator who truly keeps what’s in the best interests of the kids in mind, focusing on physical education for all. It’s not competition, it’s about learning,” said Jeff Newton, principal. Megan Izzo, ’06, has accepted the position of associate director for marketing and development for The Boys & Girls Club of Stamford, as reported in the Greenwich Times. Todd Petronio, ’06, is the new athletic director for North Haven High School, as reported in the North Haven Courier. Ryan Festa, ’07, of Wallingford, Conn., has been named the recipient of the 2007 Public Health Award for Excellence, as reported in the Record Sunday Journal. Daniel E. Mack, ’07, has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, as announced in the Quad Town Advisor. He was selected “Top Honor Graduate” of the 614 airmen graduating in his class. He also earned the title “Expert Marksman” and a physical fitness award. He currently is stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Wash., where he is training to be a survival, evasion, resistance, and escape (SERE) specialist. |
