An Introduction to Buddhism
5:00 P.M.
A talk & concert combined. The interactive lecture: Queries students as to their knowledge or preconceived ideas about Buddhism. Come learn about Buddhism's origins, its founder and foundational teachings such as karma, reincarnation, compassion, and the notion of emptiness. The concert: Ancient and original songs featuring figures and teachings from Indian, Tibetan and American Buddhism. Questions and answer session to follow.

Arguments and Strategies for Building an Educated City

Dr. Cabezudo specializes in issues related to education and pedagogy particularly as it relates to cities. Her region of specialty is Latin America. She has traveled and lectured worldwide. Her talk will introduce topics related to conflict resolution. She will speak to how to build an educated city and how to transform the urban space as educational cities. This event is sponsored by: Geography Club, Anthropology Club; Geography Dept, Urban Studies Program, Anthropology Dept and GTU.

Veterans Day Ceremony
1:00 P.M. - 2:00 P.M.
Southern's annual Veterans Day Ceremony will honor our student veterans and recognize the history and tradition of this sacred day. The colors will be posted, President Norton will welcome us, and our guest speaker is J.R. Martinez. J.R. was seriously wounded in Iraq in 2003, suffering burns over 40% of his body. He underwent 32 different surgeries including skin grafts and cosmetic surgery. He inspires the lives of others through his amazing story of resilience, perseverance and optimism.

"Journey of Man"

The campus community is invited to view "Journey of Man," a documentary that answers the question, Where do we all come from? The story is told through the science of genetics. Dr. Wells, a 33-year old geneticist, is part of a team that has been re-writing history. He has been disentangling this epic story from evidence all people carry with them in their DNA-inherited from those ancient travelers.
