JACK MALONEY, HEAD COACH
In  his fifth year as Southern Connecticut State University's head coach of men's cross country and indoor & outdoor track and field, Maloney has already succeeded in continuing the tradition of excellence of the SCSU Cross Country and Track & Field Teams
Maloney, an assistant under Wil Wright for 17 seasons, was named the 2002 Northeast - 10 Conference Coach of the Year for outdoor track & field.  He was also named as the NCAA Division II 2002 Outdoor track & field Regional Coach of the Year.  Maloney has already been the head coach of twenty Div-II all-American performers.  The 2003 Track & Field team placed second in the New England Outdoor Championship Meet.   Maloney has been instrumental in developing the Owl's running programs. Working with middle distance and distance performers in Cross Country and Track, he has coached numerous NCAA qualifiers and "All Americans".  All of the distance and middle distance records for Southern, with the exception of the 1500 meters and the seldom-run two mile, have been set by Maloney-coached runners.
Maloney is the only assistant coach to ever be named Division II New England Coach of the Year, earning that honor in 1991.
A former track and cross country coach at the University of New Haven, Maloney was track captain at Notre Dame of West Haven and the University of Massachusetts, where he previously held the indoor 880 record.
Maloney resides in Milford with his wife of 25 years, Valerie.

WIL WRIGHT, ASSISTANT
In his 35 seasons as head coach of track and field and 27 years guiding the men's cross-country team, Wright developed his Southern program into one of New England's best. He stepped down from both positions in the summer of 1998, but continues with the Owls as an assistant coach. He never had a losing season in either program.
Wright has been selected as the New England coach of the year for cross country and indoor and outdoor track on several occasions and has also been recognized regionally and nationally for his teams' successes. Administratively, he has served a six-year term on the NCAA Cross Country/Track and Field Rules Committee.
An assistant football coach for seven seasons at Southern, Wright is a professor emeritus.  A former physical education department chairman, he was a long-standing member of the University Curriculum and Instruction Committee. He earned a B.S. degree from Southern Methodist University and a M.S. degree from Springfield College, with doctoral studies at Indiana University.

BILL SUTHERLAND, ASSISTANT
A 1973 Southern graduate in his fourteenth year as throwing coach, Sutherland excelled in the discus throw. After graduation, Sutherland concentrated on throwing the hammer. He has thrown 224'9" and competed in the 1984 U.S. Olympic Trials.
Sutherland, who also coached at Yale, has coached three NCAA Division-II champions at Southern: Chris Sagnella (javelin, 1992) and Dan Bourque (35-lb weight and hammer, 1998), and turned out nine "All Americans".  Sutherland is responsible for the weight training programs of the throwers.
 ART KADISH ASSISTANT
 

A 1972 Southern graduate, Art has made SCSU one of the top vaulting schools in the East.        He has coached seven vaulters who have jumped better than sixteen feet. The most successful, Mike Drummeyholds the SCSU pole vault record at 17 ' 8.5".  Drummey was a two time NCAAII champion and held the NCAA II vault record for a number of years. Dave Gibeault was also a NCAA II vault champion that was coached by Art.  Art's vaulters have earned 12 All American awards.
