Only one member of the 2003 team which missed going to the NCAA II Championship Meet by one team at the qualifying meet (four points behind the third place team), was lost via graduation.  With four of the top five returning, the 2004 team should be Southern's best team in the past half dozen years.  Travis Gale (Ellington, CT.) was the team's #1 runner last year in every meet except the season opener in which he was our # 2 runner.    Last year's #2 runner,  Billy Preston - Jewett City, CT.; #4 Scott Richnavsky - Torrington, CT.; #5. Greg Kalinka - Thomaston, CT.; #6 Blake Helveston - East Hampton, CT.; and #7 A.J. Roy - Danbury, CT.  all return.  Four of this group are juniors - Preston, Richnavsky, Helveston, and Roy, with  Gale and Kalinka being seniors.   The addition of senior Chris McCormack - Montville, CT., and sophomore Steve Pretak - Torrington, CT., both injury "redshirts" from last year's team, should have an immediate impact on the top seven.
