Refund Questions

I have a credit on my account. How do I initiate a refund?
Most credits, including financial aid refunds, are refunded automatically within several weeks of being posted to your account. If you have a specific inquiry about a refund, please contact Bursar Office representative Ms. Edna Hinton at (203) 392-6836 or via e-mail at hintone1@southernct.edu.

How long can I expect before I receive my refund check?
Depending on how and when the Bursar's Office is notified, it may take 2-3 weeks for a refund to be processed and received. To expedite your refund you may elect to receive your refund electronically.

The Bursar's Office must first receive notification that a student is eligible for a refund; this can happen in any of the following ways:

  • The Registrar's Office notifies the Bursar when a student withdraws or has  a status change (Full-Time to Part-Time or vice versa);
  • The Student will alert the Bursar's Office that they have a credit on their account and wish to receive a refunds;
  • The Bursar's Office runs a report that shows students whose accounts have a negative balance (credit).

Once its determined that the student is eligible for a refund, it may take 2-3 weeks to have a refund check printed and mailed. If you made a credit card payment OVER THE WEB, your refund will be credited back to the credit card used when making the payment.  If you wish to have your refund deposited directly into your checking or savings account electronically, CLICK HERE and complete your account profile. To learn more about e-Refunds visit the eBill information website.

NOTE: ALL REFUNDS IN THE FORM OF A CHECK ARE MAILED TO THE STUDENT'S PERMANENT MAILING ADDRESS ON FILE WITH THE REGISTRAR'S OFFICE.

If you wish to change your address, please complete a Change of Student Info form with the Registrar's Office.

Can I pick up my refund check?
NO, all refund checks are mailed to the student's permanent mailing address on file in the Registrar's Office. If you wish to change your address, please complete a Change of Student Info form with the Registrar's Office.  If you wish to have your refund deposited directly into your checking or savings account electronically, CLICK HERE and complete your account profile. I have a Financial Aid credit on my account, when can I expect a refund?
The Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships (OFAS) is required by federal law to verify that you are eligible for the loan by being registered as a matriculated student with the proper number of credits. This is a two-week process that the OFAS can not begin until after Add/Drop period ends, which is September 9, 2008 for the Spring 2007 semester. Therefore, Financial Aid refunds should start being processed on September 23, 2008. If you wish to have your refund deposited directly into your checking or savings account electronically, CLICK HERE and complete your account profile. To learn more about e-Refunds visit the eBill information website.

For more information about Financial Aid matters, please visit the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships' website.

NOTE: If you would like to use your excess Financial Aid to purchase books, supplies, etc, you can request to add up to $500 of your excess funds to your Hoot Loot Card by clicking on: http://hootloot.southernct.edu

I should be getting a refund but I have received a statement (bill) instead. What could the reason be?
There are several reasons. Your student status may have changed from full-time to part-time or part-time to full-time, which changes your bill and affects your financial aid. You may have also added an additional class that requires extra course fees. You can review your current statement by clicking here.

How do I get a refund if I will not be attending this upcoming semester?
Undergraduate students who will not be attending for the upcoming semester should contact the University's withdrawal coordinator, in the Registrar's Office, Ms. Monica Raffone at (203) 392-6194 or via e-mail at raffonem1@southernct.edu

Graduate students should contact the School of Graduate Studies at (203) 392-5240.

Can I have my refund automatically deposited into my bank account?
