Not sure what career to pursue or which major to choose? Don't worry, you are not expected to make career decisions during your first semester on campus. Planning and organizing, however, are key to choosing a major and finding a satisfying career. The Career Center's action-oriented "Four Year Career Planning Guide" can assist you, as well as the resources and outside links listed below.

Are you unsure about what you want to major in? Or do you have a major, but are not certain if it is the right choice for you? You are not alone in feeling unclear about this important decision; close to half of all incoming freshmen aren't sure either! You are not expected to make this decision during your first semester on campus, however, it is important to plan and organize in order to facilitate the process and make it easier for you later on in your college career.
We believe students who are still considering a major are on a very important journey. The Center for Career Services is here to help and guide you in making an informed choice, a choice that is right for you! We have many resources available to help you make this decision.
- Four Year Career Planning Guide and Steps to Choosing a Major - The Career Center's guide highlighting important actions you should take beginning in your first year and moving throughout your college career.
- FOCUS - is a self-paced online tool that will help you explore career paths and select the major area of study to support your career goals.
- Choosing a Major Video Vignette - This short video offers a humorous introduction to choosing a major. After watching the video, we encourage you to make an appointment to meet with a member of the Center's professional staff to discuss your individual needs.
- What Can I Do With My Major? - An extensive listing that connects majors to careers, including an outline of common career areas, typical employers, and strategies designed to maximize career options.
- Individual Consultations - Meet with a member of the Career Center's professional staff for individualized assistance with any career related issues; including: choosing a major, career options, resume review, cover letters, and other career-related topics.
- Career Resource Library - An extensive library of resources is available in the Center for Career Services. These resources include reference books, video and multimedia tools on many aspects of career planning, occupational information, What Can I Do With My Major? information sheets, the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) salary handbook, graduate school information, and an entrepreneurial area. This is a walkin service; appointments are not required.
- Workshops - A full schedule of workshops on resume writing, interviewing techniques, choosing a major, preparing for a successful career fair experience, and job search strategies round out the range of services offered to career and job seekers. Workshops are presented by the Center's professional staff, as well as by employment representatives from the community.
