Not sure about what you can do with your major, or how to get started on your job search? The following career resources and services, offered by the Center for Career Services, are a great place to start. Visit us in Schwartz Hall Room 102 for Quick Question Hours, to utilize the Career Computer Lab or Library, or to meet with a career counselor and learn more about how we can help you achieve career success.
Services/Resources
One-on-one appointments - Offer the most customized experience, allowing you the opportunity to meet with a career counselor to address specific concerns regarding choosing a major, career planning, developing your resume and/or cover letter, and interviewing skills. Quick Questions Hours also offer the opportunity to meet one-on-one with a career counselor for a brief consultation without an appointment. "Walk-in" hours are during specified times Monday-Thursday.
JOBSs - Job Opportunities Benefiting Southern students is a robust online job board available 24/7 to students and alumni looking for full-time or part-time work, co-ops, internships, and on-campus student employment. It is powered by NACElink, DirectEmployers Association, and Symplicity. And best of all, it is designed specifically for Southern
Job Choices - Job Choices, brought to you by the National Association of Colleges and Employers is comprised of three publications with information for business and liberal arts students; science, engineering and technology students; and for students interested in diversity.
Cooperative Education - Gives students an opportunity to try out career options prior to graduation. Students gain valuable career-related experience while earning academic credit and money. After graduation, students usually find that their co-op position makes them more attractive to prospective employers. In addition, they often receive higher salary offers than students without co-op experience.
Workshops/RESUMANIA - A full schedule of workshops and presentations on interviewing, résumé writing, choosing a major, career choices, and job search strategies are offered to career explorers and job seekers. The center's professional staff often works with representatives from the employment community to present informative workshops. These workshops and presentations are conducted both at the Center for Career Services and in the classroom. RESUMANIA is offered several times during the year, and provides the opportunity for students to drop by for a quick review of their résumé. Resumania is held at different locations throughout the campus.

Professional Social Networking
On-Campus Student Employment - To qualify as a University Student Worker, students must be accepted to the university as matriculated and must be enrolled in courses. To apply for on-campus jobs, students should go to www.Careers.SouthernCT.edu and log onto JOBSs using their MySCSU login information. Once the profile is completed, the student will be able to apply directly to departments looking for student help.
Career Fair - Each year the Center for Career Services hosts several career fairs that bring national and regional employers, representing all fields, to the Southern campus. The fairs foster student and employer interaction while offering students the opportunity to explore various careers, learn about organizations and industries, and apply for full-time, part-time, internship, and cooperative education opportunities.
On-Campus Interviewing Program - The Center for Career Services offers students and alumni a direct way to compete for job opportunities through the on-campus interview program. Employers come to campus to interview for positions in a variety of fields. Southern students and alumni who are interested in participating in the on-campus interview program must submit a refined resume at least on week prior to the interview. Please visit the events page for a schedule of upcoming interviews.
Computer Lab and Library - Includes traditional and multimedia resources. A variety of career development tools to enhance awareness and comprehension of career planning.
Focus - is a self-paced online tool that will help you explore career paths and select the major area of study to support your career goals.
Perfect Interview - A web-based interview software that records and plays back answers to an abundance of questions. Don't have a web-cam? Come utilize this awesome resource in our computer lab!
Resources by Major - Resources are arranged by academic school. Browse through links that are relevant to your major and related career field.
Video Vignettes
These short videos offer a humorous introduction to important job search topics. After watching the videos make an appointment to meet with a member of the Center's professional staff to discuss your individual job search needs. You can make an appointment by calling the Center at 203-392-6536.
