Southern Connecticut State University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Chemistry with an emphasis on chemical genomics at the rank of Assistant Professor. Southern Connecticut State University is a primarily undergraduate institution with a focus on teaching, with a normal teaching load of 12 credit hours per semester. The chemistry department at SCSU is ACS approved, offering B.S. and M.S. degrees in chemistry.
Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses in freshman chemistry, and organic/biochemistry as well as graduate level elective courses in the candidate's specialty area. The successful candidate is expected to engage in research and creative activity with undergraduate and graduate students. Faculty members are also expected to advise undergraduate students and participate in committee service. Candidates with the motivation to create a new concentration in chemical genomics at the undergraduate level and/or a graduate certificate are strongly encouraged to apply.
Required Qualifications:
A Ph.D. or ABD in chemistry and research / job experience in chemical genomics are required. If ABD, candidate must have earned doctorate by time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
The preferred candidate will be able to develop research in collaboration with the new Center for Genomics developed with Jackson Laboratories. Preference will also be given to those who have experience teaching organic or biochemistry at the undergraduate level.

Southern Connecticut State University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Analytical Chemistry with an emphasis on instrumental analysis at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning January 2013. Southern Connecticut State University is a primarily undergraduate institution with a focus on teaching, with a normal teaching load of 12 credit hours per semester. The chemistry department at SCSU is ACS approved, offering B.S. and M.S. degrees in chemistry.

A Ph.D. or ABD in chemistry and research / job experience in instrumental analysis are required. Applicants who are ABD will be considered, but the candidate must complete their Ph.D. by the time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
The preferred candidate will be able to service and maintain the GCMS, LCMS, and IR instruments and be familiar with the operation of the NMR. Preference will be given to those who have experience teaching instrumental methods courses

PART-TIME FACULTY POSITION
Specialization: Physical Chemistry
The Chemistry Department at Southern Connecticut State University invites applications for a temporary part-time position starting November 2012 for a 6-week period. The teaching responsibilities include Physical Chemistry lecture from 9-10am Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
A Ph.D. or ABD in Physical Chemistry is required, and prior experience teaching at the college level is preferred.

Part-Time Faculty Positions
The Chemistry Department at Southern Connecticut State University is looking to hire part-time faculty members to teach General Chemistry laboratory during the day hours. An M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Chemistry is required. Lab sessions are 3 hours per week. Lab instructors are responsible for leading pre-lab lectures, preparing and administering pre-lab quizzes, holding one office hour per week, and grading lab reports. The grading of reports requires a strong ability to assess written work for grammatical content, as well as scientific content and style.
