Communication
The Communication Department prepares graduates to tackle all areas of the media. Through a program combining writing, speaking, graphics, and design -- and with a high degree of professional preparation -- students learn to understand, shape, and use the force of communication to prepare for careers in areas like business, politics, consulting, broadcasting, education, marketing, and advertising.
Students learn the tools of the communication professional -- how to define and reach target audiences, how to construct and articulate a message, and how to make the most of communication technology. Students also delve into issues of cultural awareness and examine the ethics of professional communication.
The Communication Department asks students to be professionals-in-training through challenging courses that combine communication theory with hands-on applications. Internships at an exciting array of locations enable students to work side-by-side with professionals, gaining critical experience. Majors also learn about language and presentation, develop their writing and speaking skills, sharpen their professional images, and gain expertise in both the traditional and emerging communication media, from print, television, and radio to multimedia and the Internet.
