A special
issue of GREAT, a publication on Gender Relations in Educational
Applications of
Technology. In this issue, we explore the social and ethical implications
of
computers in the classroom with regard to the existing gender differences in
education
and computing.
The American Association of University Women is a
national organization that
promotes education and equity for all women and girls. Our
commitment to these
issues is reflected in our public policy efforts, programs, and
diversity initiatives.
The Computing Research Association (CRA) is an
association of more than 180
North American academic departments of
computer science and computer
engineering (CS&CE); laboratories and centers in industry, government, and
academia engaging in basic computing research; and
affiliated professional societies.
CRA's
mission is to strengthen research and education in the computing fields,
expand
opportunities for women and minorities, and improve public and policymaker
understanding
of the importance of computing and computing research in our
society.
Gentech is an applied research project whose mandate is
to create conditions within
which
girls and women have maximum access to, and confidence in, a wide range of
new
information technologies.
