Society of Physics Enthusiasts Minutes
Monday, September 27, 2004
In attendance: Dr. Broadbridge, Dr. Enjalran, Jackie McGuinness, Jay James, James Elliott, Charles Tirrell, Daniel Urban, Mark Ruzbarsky, Jeff Fransen, James Scheffler, William Jensen, Tom Sadowski and Eric Anderson.
The meeting was called to order at 1:00 pm.
I. Welcoming of members new and returning to the first meeting of the semester
II. Organizational Business
a. Club Membership sheet for fall semester was filled out by all members in attendance. Those members not at the meeting, but still apart of the club were added afterwards before submission to Student Affairs.
b. Directory Information form was completed by all officers and faculty advisor.
i. Registration forms (above) submitted to Student Affairs on 09.29.
III. Budget Overview: T-shirts
a. Promotional item account: available for this semester only ($200)—the
suggestion was made that this account be used for making additional t-shirts
for club members: “ΣΟΠΕ GREEK LIFE / SCSU – Society
of Physics Enthusiasts”
i. Charles is the contact person if you are interested in purchasing one: $16 a shirt (chtirrell@yahoo.com).
IV. Possible Participation for Homecoming
a. Banner Contest: (due by October 27th)
b. Float for Parade: (applications and sketches due October 26th)
i. If enough members are willing to participate in one or both of these events, we should discuss plans for next meeting. *Cash prizes for winners!
V. Possible Fundraising Events
a. Bake
VI. Upcoming Event
a. Norton’s Walk/Run on October 2nd at 9:00 am. Club members interested in participating must register and also contact Charles about purchasing a shirt to wear for the event.
VII. Information about Society of Physics Students (SPS)
a. Dr. Broadbridge distributed information about SPS, any club member who is interested should become a member the cost is only $20. For more information, please check out: http://www.spsnational.org.
VIII. Robotics Update—given by James Elliott
a. Robotics is making progress. New members are attending the
meetings. Meetings are held on Wednesday
nights in
b. Fundraising is essential to purchasing equipment necessary; we must take this into consideration.
IX. Closing Announcements
a. Next SoPE meeting will be held on Monday, October 11, 2004, at 1:00 pm. The meeting will adjourn at 1:45 pm. We will have AV equipment and will go over the new SoPE website.
b. Any topics you would like to discuss at our next meeting, please contact Jackie (mcguinnessj1@southernct.edu) so to prepare a list of topics for discussion.
