undergraduate ceremony

The undergraduate ceremony will be held on Friday, May 29, beginning with an academic procession at 10:15 a.m. at the Connecticut Tennis Center off Derby Avenue (Route 34) in New Haven.

Located about two miles from campus, the Tennis Center can seat up to 11,000 people, which means that parents, relatives, and friends are able and welcome to share in the excitement as our students receive their bachelor's degrees from Southern.

Candidates for the bachelor's degree must purchase a cap and gown at the bookstore in order to participate in the ceremony. Caps and gowns will be available beginning Monday, April 20, and cost $37.98. Bookstore hours are
Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through exam week. The bookstore phone number is (203) 392-5270.

We will hold commencement at the Tennis Center rain or shine. If severe weather is threatening on the morning of the event, call the university's WeatherChek message line at (203) 392-7669 to check for any delay in the event's starting time, or visit Southern's home page.

 

graduate ceremonies

The university will hold two commencements for students receiving master's degrees, sixth year professional diplomas, and doctoral degrees. Both ceremonies will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2009, in the Lyman Center at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.  The afternoon ceremony will includes the Schools of Arts and Sciences, Business, and health and Human Services. The evening cermony will include the Schools of Education and Communication, Information, and Library Science. Click here for more information about graduate commencement.

In addition to the conferring of graduate degrees and diplomas, both events also will include a hooding ceremony at which each master's degree and doctoral degree candidate will be invested with the hood of his or her major, and each sixth year diploma candidate with a sixth year diploma stole.
