Welcome to the Home Page of the General Education Task Force of Southern Connecticut State University. On our web site you will find information about the work of the Task Force and the evolution of the General Education program at Southern.

Constituted in 2002 as an elected subcomittee of the Undergraduate Curriculum Forum at Southern, we are currently approaching the end of the first phase of the project to design a General Education program for all our undergraduate students. This first phase involves the development of general goals for such a program.

Throughout the past twelve months we have met with most of the academic departments at Southern and solicited faculty opinions on a draft statement of goals. Based on faculty feedback we revised our document this past winter. The document was submitted to the UCF for endorsement this February.

In March, the UCF endorsed the committee's document by a vote of 31 for, 4 against, and 1 abstaining. Because of UCF's endorsement the document has been submitted to the Faculty Senate, which is conducting a university-wide referendum.

Should these goals be approved, we will move on to the second phase of the process which will involve working with faculty throughout the university to develop a coherent progam to implement these goals.
