ABOUT SCSU

southern owl sculptureSouthern Connecticut State University (SCSU) is one of four universities that comprise the Connecticut State University System (CSU). CSU is governed by a 16-member board of trustees. The chancellor of CSU is responsible for administration of the system; however, each university in the system is given a considerable measure of autonomy, and each functions under the leadership of its own president.

Situated on a beautiful 168-acre campus in New Haven, Connecticut, SCSU has distinguished itself as a regional leader for innovative educational and cultural initiatives. Among the four universities of the CSU system, Southern Connecticut State University has emerged as the flagship for graduate studies. A fully accredited university, Southern has a graduate faculty that is dedicated to the pursuit of the SCSU twofold mission: education and service. To these ends, faculty are committed to the personal growth and educational development of students as individuals by providing humane, caring, and supportive learning environments and rigorous training.

Future Plans for the university:

Southern is in the midst of the largest construction program in its 113-year history. Started in 1998, phase 1 of three phases in this construction project includes: a new student center (completed); a new facilities operation building (completed); a new parking garage (completed); a new boiler plant (completed); new baseball/softball fields (completed); renovations to Engleman Hall (completed), Buley Library (underway), and Jennings Hall (underway).

Southern's plans for the second and third phases of its construction program have been determined and include new and renovated buildings across the entire campus.
