ABOUT SCSU
Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) is one of four universities that comprise the Connecticut State University System (CSUS). CSUS includes four comprehensive universities: Central Connecticut State University, Eastern Connecticut State University, Southern Connecticut State University and Western Connecticut State University. With more than 36,600 students and 180,000 alumni, CSUS is the largest public university system in the state. Each university functions under the leadership of its own president.
CSUS is governed by the CT Board of Regents for Higher Education. The Board of Regents is comprised of 15 voting members with nine appointed by the Governor and four appointed by legislative leadership. Also serving on the Board as full voting members are the chair and vice-chair of a new Student Advisory Committee.
Situated on a beautiful 168-acre campus in New Haven, Connecticut, SCSU has distinguished itself as a regional leader for innovative educational and cultural initiatives. Among the four universities of the CSU system, Southern Connecticut State University has emerged as the flagship for graduate studies. A fully accredited university, Southern has a graduate faculty that is dedicated to the pursuit of the SCSU twofold mission: education and service. To these ends, faculty are committed to the personal growth and educational development of students as individuals by providing humane, caring, and supportive learning environments and rigorous training.
Future Plans for the university:
Southern is in the midst of the largest construction program in its 113-year history. Started in 1998, phase 1 of three phases in this construction project includes: a new student center (completed); a new facilities operation building (completed); a new parking garage (completed); a new boiler plant (completed); new baseball/softball fields (completed); renovations to Engleman Hall (completed), Buley Library (underway), and Jennings Hall (underway).
Southern's plans for the second and third phases of its construction program have been determined and include new and renovated buildings across the entire campus.
