"A beacon of light on Southern's Campus"
College is an exciting and sometimes stressful time. For many, it is the first time away from home. Students are faced with increased study time, independence, social pressures, time management, and responsibilities. Some students may face problems that are not easily resolved. They may also find it difficult to deal with problems in the usual way and that talking with friends or relatives about their problems just isn't working as it did in the past.
University Counseling Services provides students the opportunity to talk with a professional counselor about their issues. The office is staffed by professional counselors and social workers. It is a place for a student to meet with an objective person who can help him/her in many ways, like developing problem solving and coping skills. Students can then apply what they learn about themselves and/or their particular situation in the "real world" so that they can begin to effectively deal with problems outside of the counseling setting.
University Counseling Services offers a wide variety of resources to help students adjust to life on campus. Our primary purpose is to provide psychological support as students pursue academic and personal goals and to enhance the quality of their experience at Southern Connecticut State University.
