Counseling Services, The Suicide Prevention and Education Task Force, the Dean of Students Office and Greek Life Council are pleased to announce: "Southern's Random Acts of Kindness: Every Kind Act Can Help Save a Life."
Did you know that kindness is contagious? Research shows that one small act of kindness can inspire a community of kind movements. In fact kindness is connected to wellness in many ways. We are proud to invite you to join the Kindness Initiative of Southern Connecticut State University. The goal of this initiative is to foster positive relationships, increase student-faculty morale and essentially build a stronger campus community, where everyone can feel appreciated.
What exactly is a random act of kindness?
"A random act of kindness is a selfless act performed by an individual or group with the sole intention of making someone happier. This can be done by doing something unsuspecting and kind, providing encouragement, thanking them for their efforts or lifting their spirits with positive affirmations."
How can one person make a difference? It's simple...you can do so by
-
offering a smile or a hug
-
being a good listener
-
classroom by always being bright and enthusiastic
-
classroom by always being supportive of and helpful to the others
-
in the workday by being someone we can count on for an answer, or to step up
-
by being someone we can count on to do the right thing
-
by being thoughtful and kind (eg. hold the door for someone, give up your parking spot!)
-
if you try to make someone laugh
-
if you care what the campus looks like and help to keep it clean
-
if you offer to help when you notice someone needs help
-
if you speak up when someone makes a hurtful joke
-
if you step in to deflect an insult or help someone out of an embarrassing situation
-
if you graciously accept an apology from someone instead of retaliating
-
if you take the time to thank someone who has helped you
