Theoretical Orientation

I use Cognitive-Behavioral, Adlerian, Gestalt and Existential therapy.  Counseling is a collaborative process that allows an individual to explore concerns in a safe and trusting environment.  Our past provides us with a wealth of information about who we are, but it does not have to define who we become.  Through counseling, I believe students are able to realize how the past affects the present and can learn healthy ways of coping that can ultimately improve life satisfaction.  I also work to help individuals take responsibility for their own lives and personal growth and to recognize their capacity for healing themselves.  Finally, I believe there are many themes in life, and I work to help students develop self-awareness by looking deeply into these issues and themes to focus on new and healthier ways of living. Trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitzation and Reprocessing), a treatment approach particularly useful for persons affected by trauma.

Professional Interests

Depression, anxiety, eating disorders, transgender issues, empowerment and self-esteem, grief and loss, career assessment and support groups.

Mental Health Philosophy

Think well...feel well...live well. Our thoughts have a central impact on how we feel and consequently how we act.  If we can explore, understand and change unhealthy thought processes, we can then change negative emotional patterns and ultimately make behavioral changes that are empowering and positive.
