GRADUATE PROGRAMS

Our department offers three separate programs:

  •     Community Counseling
  •     School Counseling
  •     School Psychology

Applicants must apply to a specific program.

Each program has its own admission criteria, admissions deadlines, and admission committee.  Be sure to carefully attend to the correct criteria for the program you are interested in.

Candidates must apply to:

  • SCSU Graduate School (Application form and fee; transcripts)
  • One of our three programs (References, personal statement, etc)

See detailed information under each program

Each program offers both the master of science degree, and the Sixth Year Professional Diploma (advanced study, for candidates who already have a master's degree in that field of study).

Admission to a master's program is not a guarantee of admission to the Sixth Year program.  Students must re-apply for that advanced program.

Admission to all three programs has been relatively competitive.  Recent statistics indicate that acceptance rates are approximately 25% (one candidate in four admitted).

The two school programs (school counseling and school psychology) result in certification to practice in public schools in Connecticut.  Because Connecticut standards are rigorous, this certification is accepted by most other states for practice there.
