Memorandum
TO: Deans, Faculty, Directors, Departments/Program Heads
FROM: Selase W. Williams, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
SUBJECT: CSUS Trustee Teaching Award Nominations and CSUS Trustee Research Award Nominations
By resolution of the Board of Trustees of the Connecticut State University System, the CSUS Trustee Teaching Award and the CSUS Trustee Research Award were established to recognize Assistant and Associate Professors who are outstanding teachers and researchers. *Nominees in the area of teaching are expected to submit evidence to demonstrate excellence and effectiveness in teaching (including the use of assessment of student learning outcomes to improve instruction) and in promoting collegial interactions at the program, department and/or school levels leading to demonstrable educational improvements for students during the last five years. Strong evidence of effectiveness is required.* *Nominees in the area of research are expected to demonstrate substantive research contributions, achievements, and scholarly activities in their research and/or creative work accomplishments.* Each campus will nominate one individual in each area for a campus award of $1,000 in teaching and $1,000 in research. System-wide committees will subsequently select from among the four campus nominees the CSUS System Award recipient, who will receive an additional $1,000.
To be eligible for either of these awards, an individual must be a tenured or tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. The specifications for these awards and the application process can be viewed at
http://www.ctstateu.edu/trustees/TrusteeAwards.htm
Please note that the deadline for applications is December 1, 2008 by 4:00 PM in Academic Affairs (EN A 210). *Nominations may originate from Deans, Directors, and Departments/Program Heads, administrators, award committees, individual faculty members and self nominations.*
Two committees of senior faculty will be named to evaluate the applications. The membership of those committees will be announced after the full complement has been confirmed.
I want to encourage all interested and eligible faculty to apply for these prestigious awards.
