LETTER
OF AGREEMENT
Pursuant to Article 10.4 of
the Agreement of August 23, 2002, between The Connecticut State University American
Association of University Professors, Inc., and the Board of Trustees for The
Connecticut State University, the parties agree that full-time faculty workload
credit in the Undergraduate Program of the Department of Nursing
at Southern Connecticut State University shall be computed as follows:
Full-time
Faculty Members
1. Workload
credit may be accumulated by any of the following methods as specified in this
undergraduate letter of agreement, or by combining credits as specified in the
graduate program letter of agreement for the Department of Nursing.
2. Clinical Practice
Faculty
members who teach clinical sections shall receive nine-tenths (9/10) credit for
every one (1) hour of clinical teaching.
3. Nursing
Intervention and Health Assessment Laboratory Courses
Faculty members who teach clinical sections of NUR 306, NUR 304, NUR 309 and NUR 406 shall receive four-fifths (4/5) credit for every one (1) hour of clinical teaching.
4. The
lead teacher in a clinical course, as designated by the department chair for
each semester, shall receive an additional one-half (0.5) hour load credit for
duties pursuant to this role.
5. NUR 407
A
faculty member assigned to teach theory content and supervise students
conducting community projects shall receive four (4) credits: one (1) credit
for teaching theory and three (3) credits to supervise clinical projects.
6. BSN PROGRAM
To
meet the needs of undergraduate students, a full-time faculty member shall be
assigned three (3) hours load credit per semester to coordinate the admission
and progression of undergraduate students, and to coordinate level activities.
7. RN-BSN PROGRAM
To
meet the needs of Registered Nurse (RN) students, a full-time faculty member
shall be assigned one and one-half (1.5) hours load credit per semester to
coordinate the admission and progression of RN undergraduate students.
8. CONTINUING
EDUCATION
To
meet the professional development needs of practicing registered nurses, a
full-time faculty member shall be assigned one and one-half (1.5) hours load
credit per semester to coordinate continuing education programs offered by the
Department of Nursing.
9. It is
further agreed that the student/faculty ratio shall be:
a. Six
(6) to eight (8) students per clinical section. The level of students in the
curriculum and their learning needs shall be factors in considering
student/faculty ratios. If a faculty member has more than one (1) clinical
section per week with different students in each section, consideration shall
be given for the lowest ratio. Faculty who have fifteen (15) or more students
per week shall receive an additional five-tenths (5/10) credit.
b. Ten
(10) to twelve (12) students per three (3) hour health assessment laboratory
section or nursing intervention courses.
c. RN-BSN
student clinical ratios: three-fourths (0.75) credit per one (1) hour of
clinical teaching for up to ten (10 ) students per section.
These ratios shall apply individually, not
collectively, and may be waived by the written mutual consent of the faculty
member, the Department Chairperson and the Dean of the School of Health and
Human Services.
Part-time Faculty Members
9. Part-time
faculty assigned to clinical sections shall receive load credits as follows:
a. Five (5) credits for courses/sections with
six (6) hours of clinical;
b. Six point five (6.5) credits for
courses/sections with nine (9) hours of clinical;
c. Seven point
two (7.2) credits for courses/sections with ten point five (10.5) hours of
clinical;
d. Eight (8) credits for courses/sections with
twelve (12) hours of clinical.
11. Part-time faculty assigned to nursing
intervention and health assessment laboratory courses shall receive load
credits as follows:
a. Four-fifths (4/5) credit per one (1) hour
laboratory session;
b. Additional partial credit is allocated by the
department chairperson for additional duties such as open lab supervision and
additional lab duties. Additional credit awarded shall not exceed point three
(0.3) credit.
