Part-time faculty will receive eight paychecks during the Spring 2008 semester, the checks will be mailed to your home on the following Fridays:

Feb 15  Feb 29 March 14 March 28
April 11 April 25 May 19 May 23

Direct deposit is available. Bring your Faculty ID and a deposit slip to the Payroll Department, Wintergreen Building.   Direct deposit stubs will be delivered to the departments.

Obtaining your  Hoot Loot card is fast and simple.  Just visit our office the University Card office, located in the Wintergreen Building.  You will need to bring a letter from your department requesting that an ID card be issued.  For more information visit:  http://hootloot.southernct.edu/or call x27077

NOTE: You will need your card to use the Library and computer labs.  In addition to being your ID card the Hoot Loot Card can also function as a debit card for on and around campus vendors.  Putting money on your Hoot Loot Card will enable you to use the card to make purchases at the bookstore, TYCO Copy Center, Food Services as well as additional off-camps restaurants and vendors.  Your card can also function as an ATM card when you have an account with Southern New England Federal Credit Union.  You can use your Hoot Loot card at thousands  of ATM locations world-wide to get money from your free checking account

Morrill Hall contains 33 PC computers. The software and hours are the same as at Jenning Hall. Davis Hall, http://www.soe.scsu.ctstateu.edu/, has 3 PC and 15 Mac computers with Windows 98 and Netscape. This lab is used for instructional purposes also, please call Maria Diamantis Ext. 26143 for hours and reservation. The The University Student Center has 9 PC and 3 Mac computers. Hours: Mon.-Thur. 8:00am-9:30pm. Fri. 8:00am-7:30pm. Sat. 8:00am-5:00pm. USC Basement Comfort Zone has a small lab with 5 PCs and a printer. Hours: Mon.-Fri.-9:00am-4:00pm. On Sat. check in with main office USC Room 100, Ext. 25500. Present faculty ID to use equipment.

"A part-time member who has been employed for eighteen (18) or more load credits in the University, or spouse or children under the age of twenty five (25) may take courses at any university in the system on a space available basis..." Faculty Travel & Development Funds

The Collective Bargaining Agreement provides for 10% of funds allocated for faculty travel and faculty development for the exclusive use of part-time faculty. Faculty travel money may be used to attend a professional conference, seminar or workshop and for activities to "enhance their ability to be productive and innovative professionals..." as specified in Article 9.6 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The FDAC grant form and approved grant applications are available online and in the FDAC office, Engleman A 210. Approved grant applications are on reserve at the Circulation Desk of Buley Library too. 

The SCSU Faculty Senate voted to permit part-time faculty to apply for travel funds up to $500 for this academic year. Faculty members must submit travel form requests through their department chairs to the deans of their schools. It is important that you request a CSU Travel Authorization Form from your department as early as possible if you are planning on using travel money, the requests are processed by the University on a first -come-first-served-basis.

Selection of proposals for faculty development funds are determined by the Faculty Development Activities Committee (FDAC). Proposals may provide for consultants for seminars/workshops for faculty groups. Pension Benefits

According to Article 14.2.1 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, "Part-time members shall have the right to join the State Employees Retirement System or Teachers Retirement System...or the Alternate Retirement Plan for Higher Education." The Alternate Retirement Plan TIAA-CREF, allows part-time members to contribute 5% of their salaries to the plan, while the state contributes 8% to the plan. Additional pension information may be obtained from the Personnel Department, Wintergreen Building.

Health Care Premiums

As a part-time member of the instructional faculty you are eligible for selected benefits. You may purchase health and/or dental coverage at an assigned group rate. Contact the Human Resources Department, if you did not receive notification of these benefits.

Employee & Family Assistance Program

An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) has been implemented on our campus. EAP is designed to provide free, confidential, short term counseling and referral by trained professionals. Call 1-800-526-3485 (in CT) or 203-630-5385 to make an appointment. You may also call PARENTips, Lifetips and STRESStips for consultation and information over the telephone. A newsletter and informational brochure is available and mailings to the entire university community will acquaint members with this valuable service. Contact the SCSU Personnel Department, Wintergreen Building, for information about seminars and workshops conducted by field professionals.

Tax Sheltered Annuity

A service available to all part-time faculty. Salary deductions will be made on a pre-tax bi-weekly (per pay period) basis. A minimum of $25.00 is required to start, with approximately 25% of annual salary eligible to be set aside for this. A list of approved companies is available in the Human Resources office.

Your participation in AAUP is important not only to you but to the entire university community. Membership in CSU-AAUP links you to a larger national organization that has as one of its goals the enhancement of part-time faculty. Your signature on the enclosed form entitles you to receive the national publication Academe  that includes numerous articles of interest to part-time members. Your dues are deducted automatically but your active membership requires your signature. In addition to the magazine, you are entitled to many benefits and services. Stop by the SCSU-AAUP office, meet Linda Cunningham and find out about this organization with its many benefits for part-time faculty.

NOTE: There are national web sites devoted to part-time faculty/contingent labor issues. Jobs With Justice bostonjwj@igc.org and (COCAL) the Coalition of Contingent Academic Labor adj-l@listserv.gc.cuny.edu are important national sites drawing attention to the many issues surrounding part-time faculty participation in the academic community.
