Chemistry to me is a search for the truth. It is a way of looking at and thinking about the world in which we live. Chemistry is the art and science of substances and their transformations. And transformation is exactly why I love teaching Chemistry. To see the " light bulb go on" ; to witness the change that occurs when a student, who never before liked Chemistry, suddenly becomes excited and wants to learn more about the way a Chemist looks at the world. I am a Chemist because of my high-school Chemistry teacher. He was so enthusiastic about his subject that I wanted to learn more just to be able to talk to him further about some of the themes that he had introduced during the lecture hour. I hope that I pass some of that along to my students.

B. A., University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA; Ph.D., Saint John’s University, Jamaica, NY.

Area of Interest:

General Chemistry and Instrumental Analysis.

Research Interests:

Infrared Spectroscopy, specifically investigations into the quantitative aspects of infrared spectroscopy: the use of chemometric software packages: partial least squares, PLS, and principal component analysis, PCA, to evaluate infrared data.

Curriculum Development:

Develop experiments to maximize the use of the Chemistry Department instruments ( IR, UV/VIS, AA, NMR, HPLC, GC, GC-MS, Fluorescence/Phosporescence ), particularly experiments that demonstrate the use of these instruments in solving "real-world" problems.
