This handbook may not be considered a contract between you and the Department of Communication Disorders. It is considered by the department as a guide to your activities in the program. When applicable, university policy supersedes policies in this handbook.

Although the information in this handbook was current and accurate at the time of publication, you are advised as follows:

a. in preparing applications for licensing, teacher and ASHA certification, consult the most recent information issued by the granting agency;

b. consult the University's most current graduate catalog and semester bulletin each semester for information on academic processes, dates, services and deadlines;

c. this handbook is revised once a year. University, School and Departmental policies may change. It is your responsibility to become informed of current policies which may influence your program.

The University imposes a six year limitation for completing a graduate degree. The six year limitation begins on the date of the first course you take in your graduate planned program.

The current Southern Connecticut State University Student Handbook will be issued along with the CMD Graduate Student Handbook. Information found in the University handbook might not be duplicated in the CMD Graduate Student Handbook.

If you remain a matriculated student for any semester in which you are not enrolled in a course, you will be charged a $40.00 continuous enrollment fee by the Bursar’s Office.

All new students’ progress will be reviewed at the end of the fall semester. Students who are found to be at risk based on performance and faculty concerns about essential skills will be notified. The student will meet with a member of the Academic Standards Committee for advisement. The advisor and student will develop an action plan for improvement. The implementation of the plan will be monitored during the subsequent semester. At the end of the spring semester a decision regarding continuation in the program will be made.
