Connecticut State Licensure:
Individuals who practice speech‑language pathology and/or audiology in Connecticut must be licensed by the Department of Public Health (DPH). You are eligible for licensing when you have met degree requirements. You must apply for a license before beginning employment. Please note: a teachers certificate is not a license. You must have a license in order to practice at any employment location in Connecticut including public and private schools.
Supervised Professional Experience (SPE):
After your application has been approved by DPH you must submit a SPE plan prior to beginning employment. The SPE constitutes a minimum nine months full‑time employ (30 hours per week minimum) or eighteen months part‑time employ (15 hours per week minimum) under the supervision of a licensed speech‑language pathologist and/or audiologist. The SPE may be completed concurrently with the ASHA Clinical Fellowship if your supervisor is also ASHA certified in the appropriate area and agrees to participate. Your employment setting, cases and supervisor may be the same, however, application and plans must be submitted separately to each granting agency on appropriate forms.
DPH will send you a packet of information regarding licensing application. You may write/call the department at the following address/phone #:
