Departmental Evaluations:

The Department engages in several evaluative exercises designed to assess: academic and clinical courses; quality of instruction; program quality; program mission and currency; and, student and graduate competency. Depending on type, these evaluative activities may be conducted on a semester-to-semester basis or on yearly cycles mandated by: the institution; the State licensing agency; the State teacher certification agency; and, by ASHA CAA, our professional accrediting agency. Our current cycle for CAA accreditation is 12/01/02 – 12/01/10

Academic and Clinical:

Academic and clinical courses are evaluated at the end of each semester. Students are requested to complete course evaluation forms which are summarized and presented to faculty and supervisors. The Departmental Chair and the Director of the Center for Communication Disorders review the results of the evaluations. Modifications in courses and teaching style are recommended when needed.

Program Overall:

Beyond course grades, the format of the Departmental capstone experience, the Praxis II examination, program quality, mission and currency, and student and graduate competency are evaluated on a 2.5 - 3.0 year cycle using evaluative instruments developed by the Department, institution and accrediting agencies. The instruments developed by the Department are  keyed to our Departmental competencies and serve with other indicators as general monitors of program health.
